.

What is long term thinking?

Strategic management is concerned with

  • and the adoption of courses of action
  • and allocation of resources necessary for carrying out these goals.

Alfred Chandler, 1962

.

There exists a close vertical relationship within Corporate futuring:

  • Outer focus: Operational Strategy
  • Other focus: Ethical decision making
  • Inner focus: Long term thinking

.

On the Inner focus level, a direct affiliation exists with:

  • Supporting
  • Appreciation

.

Corporate futuring and Organisational futuring intertwine, on the Inner focus level, through:

  • Collaboration
  • Motivation

.

In concrete terms, this means:

  • The trio - 'Long term thinking', 'Ethical decision making' and 'Operational Strategy' - is inextricably linked.
  • Your 'Long term thinking' contributes substantially to 'Supporting' and 'Appreciation'.
  • To convert your 'Long term thinking' into 'Supporting', you need 'Collaboration'. Even so, to enhance 'Appreciation', you need the right 'Motivation'.

.

.

Questions we can ask ourselves when contemplating our Long term thinking

  • Does our 'Long term thinking' support our 'Ethical decision making' and our 'Operational Strategy'?
  • Does our 'Long term thinking' trigger 'Appreciation'?
  • Are we 'Supportive' because of our 'Long term thinking'?
  • Does our Long term thinking act as a collider or a mediator between 'Appreciation' and 'Supporting'?
